Our Mission

At Ukay Ukay LA we believe that fashion shouldn’t cost the Earth.  More than 15 million tons of used textile waste is generated each year in the United States, and the amount has doubled over the last 20 years. The average person buys 60% more items of clothing every year and keeps them for about half as long Americans fifteen years ago, generating a huge amount of waste.  The silver lining is that almost all textiles and clothing can be repaired, recycled or repurposed.

Our mission is to reduce this waste one beautifully made garment at a time by restoring vintage pieces and upcycling pre-loved clothing into unique, sustainable, statement pieces.

Upcycling is the process of using goods or waste material to produce something that is often better than the original.  Our upcycled clothing uses significantly less raw materials, reducing the harmful impacts of fashion production including water usage, chemicals, and carbon emissions.

Ukay LA is based in Southern California and reaches fashion-lovers across the US. We donate a percentage of profits to organizations that share our core values— creating joy from discarded things, protecting our Earth, and supporting other women.
